Doors: Lucite Entry Assist Bar Repair

By Bob Pete 6/25/2007

My 5500L Illuminated Assist Handle broke in half, just as I was loaded and ready to take a trip. At first, I thought it was no big deal, but within a few trips in and out of the coach, I realized I needed one. So it was a temporary repair time.

I drilled a hole up and down from where it had broken about 1.5″ and inserted a solid #6 copper electrical wire (no insulation). I bent it to the correct shape and then removed it and covered it with clear epoxy and put it back together. Let it dry overnight and put it back in when we took off the next morning.

2 years later with a lot of use, it is still holding strong. And the light still flows through it fine.
