Doors: Rivets pull out on Bay Door Latches

Anyone have rivets pull out on bay door latches? We have a 1997 U270.

We have 2 latches where the fiberglass broke around rivets and latch is not tight to the door. Foretravel uses a special rivet that is fairly soft and it expands wide. Barry

Yes, I had them pull out. I used a piece of aluminum plate much larger than the size of the latch assembly and pop-riveted it to the door and then riveted the latch to the aluminum.

Using the bigger plate made it so I could use more rivets over a larger area and still put the latch in the exact place it was supposed to be located. The plate I used was about .025″ thick. FWIW.

I centered the latch in the relative middle of the plate (as the plate had a lot of room in which to move around on the door if it needed it) and riveted the latch to the plate.

Then I used the butts of the rivets to line them up in the old loose holes in the fiberglass. I think I had to ream out the holes just a little so they would settle in the right place. Jon Twork
